Spring Craziness!
6/29/2026

Spring has been a whirlwind here at Backroad Barnyard, and we wouldn't have it any other way!
Between mid-January and mid-March, our four Red Wattle sows welcomed a total of 47 healthy piglets into the world. Every sow farrowed like a champ, and we're incredibly proud of how well they cared for their babies. Watching each litter grow and thrive is one of the most rewarding parts of raising heritage pigs.
Fast forward a few months, and the sows are living their best lives. They're spending their summer days out on pasture, rooting through the woods, soaking up the sunshine, and cooling off in the mud. Seeing pigs do what pigs were meant to do never gets old.
Looking ahead, we're hoping for another round of piglets with fall litters arriving in late August or early September. If everything goes as planned, we'll have another group of happy, healthy Red Wattle piglets running around the farm before long.
All of our spring piglets have found wonderful new homes, and we're incredibly grateful for everyone who chose to bring Red Wattles to their farms and homesteads.
Now our focus shifts to something just as exciting—sharing the incredible pork from last year's fall piglets. If you've been curious about Red Wattle pork, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. Known for its rich flavor, beautiful marbling, and exceptional tenderness, it's a favorite among families who appreciate high-quality, pasture-raised pork.
Visit our online store to browse our pre-packed bundles or build your own order by selecting à la carte cuts. Whether you're looking to fill your freezer or simply sample a few different cuts, there's something for everyone.
And as for me? Horse show season is in full swing! Most weekends you'll find us traveling from one show to the next. The horses absolutely love having a job to do, and I enjoy every minute of learning and competing with them. It's a busy season, but it's one I wouldn't trade for anything!
Thank you for following along with our little farm and supporting what we do. Whether you're raising one of our piglets, filling your freezer with our pork, or simply cheering us on from afar, we're grateful you're part of the Backroad Barnyard family!
We can't wait to share what the rest of the year has in store!
